Meet Jem

Jem wears many hats – entrepreneur, stylist, photographer, digital content creator, and founder of @dosse_studio. To her, styling a space isn’t just about making it look beautiful; it’s about crafting a home that feels cohesive, functional, and deeply personal.

When it came to choosing furniture from IconByDesign, Jem was drawn to their clean lines, solid craftsmanship, and natural aesthetic. We sat down with her to discover her top styling tips and insights.

What do you love about IconByDesign? What makes the pieces a great addition to your home?

I love IconByDesign’s dedication to craftsmanship, quality materials, and timeless design. Their pieces have a refined simplicity that feels warm and inviting, making them incredibly easy to style in a range of interiors. The solid wood construction ensures durability, which is essential for a well-loved home.

What attracted you to the Magnus dining table from IconByDesign and how does it complement your home styling?

The Magnus dining table embodies everything I look for in a piece – clean lines, solid craftsmanship, and a warm, natural aesthetic. It seamlessly integrates into my home, balancing functionality with beauty. Its timeless Scandinavian-inspired design allows it to work harmoniously with different styles, whether I’m leaning into a minimal, modern look or layering textures for a more lived-in feel.

IconByDesign’s pieces are made from sustainable solid wood. What role does sustainability play in your home design choices, especially when selecting furniture or homewares?

Sustainability is an important factor in my design choices. I prioritise pieces that are made to last – both in quality and aesthetic – over trend-driven items that may not stand the test of time. Investing in solid wood furniture from brands like IconByDesign not only ensures longevity but also supports responsible material sourcing. I believe a thoughtfully curated home should be both beautiful and conscious of its impact.

How do you incorporate sentimental elements into your space and why is it important to you?

Sentimental pieces bring a sense of personal history and warmth to a home. I love incorporating items that hold meaning, whether it’s a vintage find, an artwork with a special story, or something passed down from family. These details create a layered and authentic space that evolves with time, making a house truly feel like home.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of curating a home for you and your family?

I love that I’ve created a home that is not only aesthetically beautiful but also functional and deeply personal. It’s rewarding to see how a well-designed space can positively impact everyday living; how it encourages connection, brings comfort, and evolves with the needs of our family. It’s about striking that balance between design and practicality.

How would you describe the aesthetic of your home?

My home has a refined, neutral aesthetic with a strong emphasis on natural materials and thoughtful details. I lean towards a modern yet warm style, layering textures and timeless pieces to create a space that feels inviting and grounded.

How has your interior style evolved over time, and how does IconByDesign align with your current aesthetic?

Over time, my style has shifted from being trend-focused to embracing a more timeless, considered approach. I now prioritise quality over quantity, opting for pieces that have longevity and versatility. IconByDesign aligns with this philosophy perfectly – their designs are classic yet modern, allowing them to integrate effortlessly into a well-curated space.

As an interior designer, what are your two favourite pieces from IconByDesign and why?

Aside from the Magnus dining table, I love the Magnus dining chairs for its sculptural yet inviting silhouette. It adds a beautiful organic element to a space with the use of wood and upholstery. The second would be the Magnus bench that complement the table perfectly, with a sleek yet sturdy design that feels both elegant and functional. Their craftsmanship and ergonomic feel make them an effortless choice for everyday dining.

What are your top tips for curating a space that is cosy and peaceful?

• Layer textures: Incorporate soft textiles, natural materials, and subtle variations in finishes to add depth and warmth.

• Prioritise lighting: Use a mix of ambient, task, and accent lighting to create a welcoming atmosphere.

• Choose a harmonious colour palette: Soft neutrals, warm woods, and earthy tones create a calming backdrop.

• Declutter with intention: Keep only what is meaningful or serves a purpose to maintain a sense of ease in the space.

• Incorporate nature: Whether through indoor plants, natural fibres, or wooden elements, bringing in organic touches enhances tranquility.
